I have a confession to make. I'm a no good, stinking copycat. As soon as I saw Jen's blog post on Grainline about her Arizona shorts, I knew that I wanted to make my own in a similar fabric.
Well I lucked out on my own awesome fabric and made this pair of shorts from the same pattern I used awhile back for my coin button shorts.
Just like the coin button shorts, these shorts have big pockets, are trimmed with bias tape, and have an invisible side zip closure.
I've been getting a lot of use out of these shorts when the Bay Area decides to throw in a hot day, so please pardon my wrinkles!
Happy Fourth of July!
awesome shorts! I love the placement of the bias tape around the pockets! And the fabric - is it from B&J too?
ReplyDeleteI also just made some printed shorts, must be something in the water... or just the fact that it's summertime. :)
Thanks! Printed shorts are so fun! I got the fabric from Stone Mountain and Daughter in Berkeley, CA.
DeleteThese are so, so cute! Great job!
ReplyDeleteWow, these shorts look awesome. I wish I would find a similar fabric at work, but yet no luck. I scored some great fabric for shorts a while ago though and can't wait to get sewing again
ReplyDeleteLove this@ love the fabric! very unique! i don't think I'd ever thought of using this for short myself but it really does work!
ReplyDeleteThe pattern is perfect on you, you should make many more of these in all colors and bias tape colors :)
Yes, great shorts! I don't belive I've been to your blog before, but I see right away you have great taste in fabric and excellent sewing skills! The shorts are JUST RIGHT, not too long or too short, not too baggy or too tight, and the pattern of the fabric matches PERFECTLY. Well done; take a bow!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! they look lovely with that bias trim! I love the print too. I think I will have to be a copy cat too! If only I was having nice warm weather here is Australia...its so cold here!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry I'm pretty sure a good portion of us were planning on copying Jen's shorts. Well, I was! I LOVE your version, perfect fabric pattern combo and the mods you made to the ruby shorts are so fantastic. Hey, if you wanna do a how to, I'm sure you'd have lots of takers...just putting it out there!
ReplyDeleteThat's a really cute pattern! I've made a couple pairs of McCalls shorts, but I really like the details on the sides of the Burda pattern. I never though about Ikat prints for shorts, but I may have to be a copycat too!
ReplyDeleteGah...LOVE the side details 4real! These look super awesome...also, emailing you back shortly!
ReplyDeleteSO CUTE. Yes, I think we're all planning on copying. They are such a great style. I really love your particular fabric and the fit is spot on. Nice!
