The Birthday Party Dress!

I'm so excited about how great this dress turned out! It fits like a very comfortable glove and the circle skirt is so much fun to move and spin around in.

The dress is made from gray lace with gray cotton for lining. For the bodice I turned to my trusty Macaron from Colette Patterns, but altered the back yoke by splitting it open and adding a vintage glass button for closure at the neckline. The sleeves are also from the Macaron dress, except I extended them to 3/4 length. The lace I used had a scalloped edge, so I cut the sleeves with the scallops for the hem. The skirt is a simple self drafted 3/4 circle skirt.

I made this dress to wear on my birthday, but as you can tell from my previous post, I couldn't wait and ended up wearing it to the BurdaStyle Book launch party last night. Like I said before, I'm just so excited about it!

  1. Looks lovely, the glass button a nice touch on a well made piece. I bet you'll get lots of wear out of it!

  2. Your dress is lovely! Gray is a great alternative to black and the back opening is super fun!

I bet twirling is a lot of fun in this dress....

  3. Gorgeous dress. I'm not a big fan of the Colette patterns, but this is a lovely version of the Macaron. If you wear it to parties you'll really stand out against all the LBDs without the dress screaming "look at me".

  14. WOW! I've been browsing sewing blogs the last few hours and this is by far the most professional looking project I've seen so far. That dress is stunning and could easily be sold at Anthropologie!

  15. This is beautiful! I love the fabric it's such a subtle shade of grey it's makes the lace look like a cloud
Question - how did you finish your back hole thing in the lace part of the dress? I always have issues with finishing lace as it's kind of see through and I hate it when you can see part or the seams anf stuf through the lace
also, I just discovered your blog and I'm hooked! thanks for inspiring me!
